Cannot start driftopia on steam

Keeps saying it can't load the achievements and stats from steam. Steam forum suggests this problem has been around for 8 months.
Will it take as long to fix that as it did to update nextcargame.com (over a year)?

Driftopia was cancelled by Namco in Beta, so the game is not available to play any more.
