Cool videos :)

And the first one (Heide-Cup) is only about 100 kms from where I live. Might go check it out some day. I see they've got a couple of race weekends this year too :D

Long but sums up pretty much everything about Jokkis/Folkrace:

Kraschfilm: Motorfilm Best of Crash 2008 - 2012

Only the first two are from some rally

Even some tire wall example for the devs @ 14:55 ;)

I think in WreckFest there should be like couple seconds delay when you roll over or get in a huge crash that you need to start the engine again. Maybe as a roll over delay in difficulty options or something like that. @21:23, @43:09 and 45:09 kind of a small delay is what I mean.

After the first 10 mins it can get quite repetive and there are great environment insipartions in those 10mins. But some highlights after that:
@ 12:00 wet tracks and pretty big hit @ 12:25
@ 20:00 and one after that nice roll overs. 1,5min after that is nice footage
@ 30:45 and the one after that
@ 37:31 and the one after that is from another angle
@ 39:45
@ 40:44 is pretty scary for one of the staff's

Yeah that was fascinating. As far as I know there's nothing like that on a large scale in the US. The racing is racing and the derby is derby, for lack of better terms.

Again, I don't know what people do in the woods of North Carolina, but to my knowledge this is the closest popular form of racing we've got, first video result for Street Stock:

More polite, less head trauma, no deliberate crashing at all. Derby plus an oval race at the same time, I'm struggling to compute.

Its interesting how different motorsports have evolved in different environments from the same base motorsport. I got into bangers through my dad at a very young age,my dad through his dad. He thinks it started when the americans came over to the UK with US Air force. Things evolved completely different over here than they did in the states from the same base early nascar oval racing. If i could compare it to anything id say UK bangers are the bare knuckle boxing of motor sport. Although its completely different now to what it was in 1995 (when that documentary was filmed). Its even more serious racing wise, with less drama but still the big crashes.

I dont know much about street stocks. But from what ive seen they seem to be a bit like UK saloon stockcars, minus the exposed bumper ironwork we have and smaller grids.

The BBC filmed a modern documentary on bangers last year, worth a watch if you can find a link somewhere (unavailable on bbc website currently). Called 'fast and fearless'

I honestly haven't even been to a derby since I was a kid. There's a bit of a cheap racing renaissance going on in the US with numerous low-cost endurance leagues popping up with various levels of car prep and seriousness. Not much good video of it though, mostly people's boring onboard shots. Here's one of those!

http://youtu.be/blYqritR4lI (Embedding disabled, limit reached)

This is from a race that I did last year but didn't get any video from. Car I had stints in is seen at about 14:50 getting blown past as it leaves the pits, little Nissan with blue and green lights. I'm not driving at the time. Also, I want it to be known that I did pass the Mustang taking this onboard at least once during the worst of the rain as it fishtailed though the tight infield sections. I know anyone can say that on the internet but I swear I did. It passed me more than once though on straights.

Anyway though, this is pretty far removed from the entry level motorsports elsewhere, it seems. I've said before, if you punt someone off in one of these with intent, you're probably getting coldcocked. Not saying that's better or worse, but it's a thing that could happen.

The bareknuckle comparison is also probably apt. What you posted with saloon stockcars still seems to involve people PITting each other off track, and I assume remaining friends afterwards.

Looks cool,a bit like entry level BTCC/DTM touring cars.A few little taps but no contact with intent. Over here we have a unwritten rule with full contact motor sport which has formed over the years. As soon as the race is stopped, you get out, shake hands with whoever hit you and leave it at that,  on track. Very rarely do you see brawling on the infield like on that old documentary, and when it does happen there's usually a hefty ban to be served after. Hit each other with your cars in the race, but not with your fists basically.

Non contact UK oval racing would be National hotrods.
