When I downloaded the Free Technology Demo version and opened it, an error message displayed saying that the d3dx9_42.dll is missing. It also suggest me to reinstall the app. When I reinstalled it, the same message displayed. How can I fix it?

I just checked the game again, and the XINPUT1_3.dll is missing too :(

How do you update directx9?
The page allows me to reinstall Windows 10, which I did. I tried again but still won't work.

Rextus, when you first posted "error message displayed saying that the d3dx9_42.dll is missing", did you have Win 10 at that time?

You would think Win 10 would be up to date on Directx, since it Directx12. If Sneak Peek still asking for the file, could Google d3dx9_42.dll , download it and put file in your Sneak Peek folder and see if that will work.

I have not done the upgrade to Win 10 yet. Still using Win 7 64bit.
Flatout Joint, where the mods were.

Seems like MS has changed the URL that previously pointed to DirectX 9 download to point to Windows 10. :O Here's an URL that looks more promising: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=34429

You can download more common DLL files (such as the DX DLL files) by themselves from dll-files.com. It is an archive of DLL files. The link you need to get d3dx9_42.dll is https://www.dll-files.com/d3dx9_42.dll.html

This is not a good idea unless you want to risk damaged or malicious files. Always only download .dll files from their official source. d3dx9_42.dll being a directx dll so get it from Microsoft website

dll-files.com is a site that's been around for a long time, and is not a malware site. It is very useful if you are missing only a file or 2. Instead of wasting time downloading and reinstalling all of DirectX, if you already have it installed, and are only missing one or two required DLL files, it is actually much more convenient to download those missing DLL files from dll-files.com. In fact, in some cases (especially with older software such as DirectX-9) the original source (Microsoft, in the case of DirectX) may not even have an official download available. Often times companies don't support older software, and at some point most companies will even stop providing download links for software that they deem to be too old to keep making the download available to the public.

I've got a lot of older games that require DLL files, and not all newer versions of Windows have those DLL files, so I have found dll-files.com to be a VERY useful website. It is absolutely NOT a malware website. My anti-virus software has never detected any malware in any of the DLL files I have downloaded from them.
