Long but sums up pretty much everything about Jokkis/Folkrace:

Kraschfilm: Motorfilm Best of Crash 2008 - 2012 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCMJ3yLI8kA#ws)

Only the first two are from some rally

Even some tire wall example for the devs @ 14:55 ;)

I think in WreckFest there should be like couple seconds delay when you roll over or get in a huge crash that you need to start the engine again. Maybe as a roll over delay in difficulty options or something like that. @21:23, @43:09 and 45:09 kind of a small delay is what I mean.

After the first 10 mins it can get quite repetive and there are great environment insipartions in those 10mins. But some highlights after that:
@ 12:00 wet tracks and pretty big hit @ 12:25
@ 20:00 and one after that nice roll overs. 1,5min after that is nice footage
@ 30:45 and the one after that
@ 37:31 and the one after that is from another angle
@ 39:45
@ 40:44 is pretty scary for one of the staff's

Yeah that was fascinating. As far as I know there's nothing like that on a large scale in the US. The racing is racing and the derby is derby, for lack of better terms.

Again, I don't know what people do in the woods of North Carolina, but to my knowledge this is the closest popular form of racing we've got, first video result for Street Stock:

http://youtu.be/5kzHSZIhArw (http://youtu.be/5kzHSZIhArw)

More polite, less head trauma, no deliberate crashing at all. Derby plus an oval race at the same time, I'm struggling to compute.

Its interesting how different motorsports have evolved in different environments from the same base motorsport. I got into bangers through my dad at a very young age,my dad through his dad. He thinks it started when the americans came over to the UK with US Air force. Things evolved completely different over here than they did in the states from the same base early nascar oval racing. If i could compare it to anything id say UK bangers are the bare knuckle boxing of motor sport. Although its completely different now to what it was in 1995 (when that documentary was filmed). Its even more serious racing wise, with less drama but still the big crashes.

I dont know much about street stocks. But from what ive seen they seem to be a bit like UK saloon stockcars, minus the exposed bumper ironwork we have and smaller grids.

I honestly haven't even been to a derby since I was a kid. There's a bit of a cheap racing renaissance going on in the US with numerous low-cost endurance leagues popping up with various levels of car prep and seriousness. Not much good video of it though, mostly people's boring onboard shots. Here's one of those!

http://youtu.be/blYqritR4lI (http://youtu.be/blYqritR4lI)

This is from a race that I did last year but didn't get any video from. Car I had stints in is seen at about 14:50 getting blown past as it leaves the pits, little Nissan with blue and green lights. I'm not driving at the time. Also, I want it to be known that I did pass the Mustang taking this onboard at least once during the worst of the rain as it fishtailed though the tight infield sections. I know anyone can say that on the internet but I swear I did. It passed me more than once though on straights.

Anyway though, this is pretty far removed from the entry level motorsports elsewhere, it seems. I've said before, if you punt someone off in one of these with intent, you're probably getting coldcocked. Not saying that's better or worse, but it's a thing that could happen.

The bareknuckle comparison is also probably apt. What you posted with saloon stockcars still seems to involve people PITting each other off track, and I assume remaining friends afterwards.

Looks cool,a bit like entry level BTCC/DTM touring cars.A few little taps but no contact with intent. Over here we have a unwritten rule with full contact motor sport which has formed over the years. As soon as the race is stopped, you get out, shake hands with whoever hit you and leave it at that,  on track. Very rarely do you see brawling on the infield like on that old documentary, and when it does happen there's usually a hefty ban to be served after. Hit each other with your cars in the race, but not with your fists basically.

Non contact UK oval racing would be National hotrods.

On the subject of health and safety in banger racing, check out the below video from 1990 and watch for the roll over during the race. Notice how the race carries on whilst other drivers and the marshels get the driver out. 1 bad hit and that driver is in bigger trouble.

Now days the red flags come out as soon as a car is off it's wheels. but back then I guess it was just considered a danger and a part of the race.

Start watching at the 5:54 mark.
http://youtu.be/1-T8kkEVX4c?t=5m51s (http://youtu.be/1-T8kkEVX4c?t=5m51s)

1 thing I do notice about today's banger racing though is that people pile into dead cars alot more. To me it just seems a waste of a car, for me contact and wrecking is all about removing opponents from the race, a dead car is already out of the race. I guess that is just me though, crowds seem to be amazed by jacking trains.

Sam, you ever see a banger race get so block in a turn, no cars could get through?

What happens then, is race called?

Depends if theres points or a title on line, Red flag, clear blockage, restart if there is. If less then 5 laps, race is called.
If its non points its usually just run until drivers clear path, will eventually red flag if not turned into a DD or clear passage.

Nice, little stevo's car was nothing short of epic.Surprised he managed to get more than one race out of it aswell. Cant imagine 1940's rolls royce spares are easy to come by,i assume it might have had jag running gear on it...?
Quite a few of the online bangers keyboard heroes were there (not that i met up with anyone), but you might have seen me and my posse sat on our fishing stool/rucksacks on turn 4.

Siamese banger racing.
The car on top is a micro banger and controls the steering, the bottom car is a standard banger and controls the pedals.
They get a suprising amount of speed and still wreck pretty well.

They are featuring at Mildenhall this weekend, which my brother is taking part in. He did the event last year, the jacking train in the consolation race was really entertaining to watch.

ye theres a few spectacle racing modes they could introduce for co op racing. Side by side chain racing,rear-front chain racing, siamese bangers. I watched a double fronted banger race once aswell, driver sat at front and rear with 4 wheel steering and 1 engine.

Hunter, how is the steering in the top car transfer to the front wheels of the bottom car? I watch video, but could not tell.
Title: Re: Worth a watch (videos)
Post by: Hunter on June 27, 2015, 11:05:54 AM
I am not mechanically minded and I just woke up, so sorry for not being technical here, someone is welcome to correct me :)

But the steering wheel from the top car is connected to the bottom car by a steering rod (?) that goes from the steering wheel through the bottom of the micro banger, in front of the bottom banger's steering wheel and into the usual place to control the cars.

I took some pictures from the event last year, sadly not that close up but in the top picture below the steering rod is in front of the bottom car's steering wheel. Hopefully that can give you an idea of the setup :). btw the steering wheel in the bottom car does nothing at all, its not connected, the driver just wanted something to hold onto I think haha.

and I've posted a bonus picture of my brother's siamese banger after that consolation race pileup.

you can do this siamese banger thing as coop atm too. as we are on a computer you can set the controls so that one person steers and the other one controls throttle and brake. yeah you can't force it in multiplayer but can you even with a explicit coop mode? i don't think so. but consider it fun for LAN parties or private games. ;)

I went to the Arlington A60 Amble last weekend, which of course primarily featured the Austin A60's, and various versions of that car. The A60's were a weapon of choice in the 70's and early 80's as they are built like tanks and take a huge amount of punishment. I even saw one A60 completely jacked up with suspension in the air and then couple of races later come out the pits completely fine, madness.

If you want pure carnage then check out the final in the bottom video. 56 Cars entered the final and only 4 crossed the finish line.

This vid rightfully puts me in a mood to play my Wreckfest!

Them Finns, really love their racing on and off tarmac.  had a few great races the other day with Dillinja, we had a couple of nearly side by side  finishes off Oval 2 track and original Oval <non 8>
I just love how the AM2 car handles getting sideways with out to much jerky movements, and being able to get that straight line (steering correction) out of apexes quickly!

Most rolls once the car has come to a standstill in 1/4's.

Probably get's painted pretty often at Warneton. Not a track ive ever visited IRL,but well looked after i think.Always looks decent and they run quite a lot of meetings there throughout the year.

Not banger or derby racing, but a worth a watch video of dirt oval race crashes in the US.

mainly sprint cars, dirt modifeds, and street stocks. None of these are fatal!

Not sure if this video fits in here, but the video description on youtube says "worth a watch"  :)
For me it was very interesting and funny at the same time. The narrator kept making me laugh so I watched the hole thing. Some crazy motor sounds and you can spot one of the Euros from Wreckfest (Ford Escort). Looks like some rare footage of early autocross in the 1970's somewhere in England.
EDIT: unfortunately you can only watch it on youtube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zn822uhS9V8 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zn822uhS9V8)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zn822uhS9V8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zn822uhS9V8)
afterwards I wondered "What did I just watch?". The description says:
"This historic rallycross film was originally done for Duckham Oils by my Father, Colin Taylor. Not the best quality but worth a watch - enjoy"

Not a race video but what looks like a warm up / practice 'half throttle' for this weekends NEC autosport show. The highlight here being the movable 360 degree camera, whilst riding on the bonnet of a F1 Stockcar.

I prefer the current track. But the track limits and outside of the track looks more finished in that video.

That video is also a good example how almost ready looking game can suddenly change a lot and everything is WIP again. Change in physics and renderer and suddenly you need to redo pretty much everything.

Nice video Sam. To give a more utilization for the current cool sliding physics, it would be great to get slippery track surface some day to Wreckfest: after rain, snow, ice, oil on the track, etc.
Mixed 1 has couple of dirt-on-tarmac parts. Like them a lot (although have not really tested grip of those sections)! Makes track twice the interesting, that you need to decide whether you want to go on slippery section or not. Or you can just lost grip on it suddenly, because surface friction changes.

Sam, I'm still a little confused about real life Banger racing. It look like you guys put a lot work into the cars, but I've seen some videos where guy race couple laps then plow his perfectly good car into a car stuck in a turn to smash both cars up good.

Seem strange to wreck a good car early and not race?

But watching your last posted video, do you goods do some "normal" bump to pass racing during the day, then towards the end of the event, you guys do some kamikaze racing to destroy the cars?

In the 4th July derby here at Yakima Speedway, we do bump to pass races and then end of the night, we do the derby to finish off the cars. But we not getting as many cars as you guys get in your Banger races. :(

Its full contact purple so you can hit people as hard as you want. The pre70 event above had a couple of 'nudge and spin' heats first, so people could get at least 1 race out of their cars. Why do they do it? rivalry, glory (crowd cheer for them), or just because they can.

I guess where it mostly differs from USA derby is its a national sport, so you get individuals/teams and spectators traveling the length of the country to see a good show

While I'm not exactly dead, I may be a little bit busier than I once was. Regardless, anyone want to have a laugh watching a forum moderator fumble with an H-shift going from fourth to third? :P

I'll definitely be playing catch-up with all the other fantastic content in this thread. Terrible internet connection allowing, of course.

Welcome back to the forum Majatek.  :D

Nice touch embedding video of you using your wheel setup.  :)

You using no assists? What class was the car you using?

Many thanks! It's great to be able to put all my technical issues behind me and get back on top of everything.

I'm definitely thinking of getting a proper camera and tripod mount to better show off the pedal use (if possible)!

No assists, and I was using the stock C-class American 5 you start the game with against the C-class AI set. :P

...I also really need to save up for a Fanatec handbrake. Hoboy it looks so nice.

Get yourself a PC :),i doubt the mods will ever end up on consoles. A few people who were racing at the world final also play wreckfest

It would be good if mods came to console though... Then I can upgrade my telly to a big swanky 4K with HDR instead of buying a PC lol! I`ll wait for the January sales and hopefully we should of heard by then from Bugbear about Wreckfest and mods on console!

Yeah just wait and see, they did say there would be mods. But no info on whats possible, how they are distributed etc. Personal i don't own any consoles, so wont be supporting console mods unless they take zero time and effort.
