Title: Gas Guzzlers Extreme
Post by: Purple44 on October 02, 2013, 05:47:01 AM
Guys at Gamepires have finish up sequel Gas Guzzlers Extreme.

Thanks to publisher Iceberg Interactive Gas Guzzlers Extreme is being listed at Steam:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/243800

Gas Guzzlers Extreme release day is Oct 8. Steam page does not yet say cost of game yet. But this Gas Guzzlers Extreme Preview (http://www.gamerevolution.com/preview/gas-guzzlers-extreme) article suggest "$24.99 and will be fully integrated with Steam.".

I was interested in Gas Guzzlers: Combat Carnage, but I mostly do multiplayer online, so took a pass on this game.

Watching this video, I see there Capture the Flag and deathmatch modes online. :) So I will keep an eye on this game and see how the multiplayer is doing.

It seems less of a fully fledged sequel to the first game, but an attempt at bypassing greenlight limbo of the first game by going with a publisher and getting on Steam that way. It is nice to see the game receiving full steamworks integration in the process.

I would love to play this game, but I tried the demo of first Gas Guzzlers and my PC couldn't run it.  :(

Thanks for the mention.
Looks like they improved handling and level desigh. If optimization is also good, it's probably 'must buy'.
The bad thing is that there is no pre-order and demo.

I would love to play this game, but I tried the demo of first Gas Guzzlers and my PC couldn't run it.  :(

First Gas Guzzlers demo run on my computer and graphics look good. Wish there was demo for the new one.

I did ask this question yesterday over at Steam:

http://steamcommunity.com/app/243800

 About online multiplayer?

Purple44 1 Oct @ 7:28pm
Will online only be done through dedicated servers or will there be P2P too?

Either way, will there be an in-game host list to see who hosting?

If only dedicated servers, will there be a tutorial on how to setup a dedicated server and the host options?

Will Gas Guzzlers Extreme have easy way to host and join players online?

 LevaOpaki  1 Oct @ 11:51pm
The online will be only through dedicated servers and no P2P.
Multiplayer is playable over internet or LAN.

Every created server can be reported to master server list.
In game you have server list so you can press refresh and get server list from master server. Same as L4D game for example.

We have manual and dedicated server launcher is GUI application so everything is straightforward and very easy to setup. You can join other game with one click.

We will also host official servers on different locations in the world.

I wish there was a demo also.
I wasnt very impressed with the first gas guzzler demo.
It was pretty boring, standard car game fare. But, it did seem like it had potential, if they would have injected something more than just weapons into the game.
:(

I'm enjoying deathmatch online with cars with weapons right now.

I pick up game on sale for $20. Be warn, not a lot players online right now. Might have to wait until Fridays and Saturdays to find more players online. Gas Guzzlers Extreme online could  pick up in the next few weeks or online could be dead in 2 months. You have been warned.

I started a thread over at Flatout Joint that got some tips for the game:

Gas Guzzlers Extreme (http://flatoutjoint.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=5946.msg30190#new)

GGE does support a wheel and has advance controller settings. My DFGT wheel is working fine.  :) I talk about my settings in FOJ thread.

If you need something to tide you over until Bugbear releases NCG alpha in December, GGE might do the trick.

Also if you got to have car damage, then might want to pass on GGE.

Went online today with Heddly and took on some AI bots in Deathmath and CTF. AI were set to beginner and kick our butts at first until we got use to the modes.

I first we were not sure how CTF work, but we figure it out over TS. There 2 flags that are place on the map, one is blue team, one is red team. You can pick up either flag, then got take your flag to the other flag. If you reach other flag before it get pickup by other team, you get a point for capping the flag and flags are reset.

If other flag is pickup by other team, your team need to destroy player's car with flag before you can cap the flag.

Tip: Need to keep your car repaired when doing deathmatch and CTF.

I think deathmatch will be a popular mode online if online picks up. Online with GGE is still slow so far. Good thing there bots online and you can set how many bots to use.

I'm going try hosting a dedicated server ( after I forward some ports listed in manual ) Saturday at 12 noon pacific time, 3:00pm eastern, 8:00pm London time. Heddly said he could make it, all others are welcome to join my host.

Look for Purple44 host, in server list.

Here a repost of my post over at Flatout Joint:

http://flatoutjoint.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=5946.msg30196

Got to do some deathmatch and CTF with a Gamepires Dev last night. We team up against bots set to impossible. We won one match 30-27, Dev (DreeMax) got over 20 kills. He is good at the game!!

Those bots like teaming up on you to take you out. Good thing Devs put a bots option for online since online is slow. Can have a good match with 2-4 online players teaming up against the bots.

Have to say Gamepires Devs have done a good job with online and the hosting options. :) Just need more players online.

I like the rubber banding option in the dedicated server options. I went with Semi-Arcade setting for closer races. Going to post about this option over at Bugbear forum. Think it be a good option to have in Next Car Game.

Can't say the game is awesome, like Flatout and GRID 1 derby racing. Racing with weapons is OK. It Deathmatch and Capture the Flag mode online where Gas Guzzlers Extreme shines. Problem is there not a whole lot of players online, even on a Saturday. :(

Hi, I live in the pacific time zone here in eastern Washington, US. I've been trying to go online on Saturdays, around 1:00pm pacific, 4:00pm eastern, 9:00pm London time.

I was thinking of going online later today ( Wed ), around 1:00pm pacific time. Maybe I see ya online. :) Send me a PM with your Steam user name and I will add you to friends list.

If you look at link below, peak time for GGE is around 12 noon pacific time, 3:00pm eastern, 8:00pm London time.

Only one server with a few players I can join, but it Sionecold South Afcica server with a PING of 352. I'm laggy on that server. :(

So decide to do some GRID 2 derby racing with Pink. Got a full house.  :)

I must admit I like the look of this game, but I paid full price for their other version of it (combat carnage) and feel ripped off.

A lot of the features that ended up in this 'Extreme' edition were ones Gamepires originally claimed in their forums would be going into the 1.4 version/patch of combat carnage. Instead, the 1.4 patch they'd posted about never materialized, a half-arsed 1.3 patch came out, and then they released this as a new game with some extra bits thrown in, charging full price for the same game with some extra content tagged on.. no chance I'm falling for Gamepire's tricks more than once!

Ya it does seem Gamepire miss handle the players that bought combat carnage version. They should of got some kind of discount. Since GGE is not a totally new game for them.

Might see a Steam Christmas sale for $5-$10 off.

Could use more players online, but beware, if you can't go online at peak time of the day, going to be deathmatching with mostly bots and another player or 2 at off peak time.

Yeah, they made it better than the first one (I tried that demo too).
The problem is the feel of the cars, and the side on collisions. The speed also sucks. Feels like driving 1 speed the whole time.
Just dont feel right at all.
Kinda, almost, exactly like Blur cars. But with guns.
And, you CANT rebind mouse buttons? Or Alt? WTD? Stupid.
Maybe on a $3 sale, otherwise no.

I had a good time on your server last night. Purple.
We got a full house.
More people need to get on multiplayer with this game.

For potential players:
One of the DLC betatesters was there and showed us some upcoming features and a quick turn trick, and mentioned that derby mode may be included with the DLC.

Missed ya Saturday night, Purple.....
....and with summer coming, Saturday nights may soon become more difficult to schedule..... :'(
....but I'll be there when I can. 8)

Tried Sunday evening, but the servers were empty. So I played with myself. (and the AI). ;D

Are you getting the DLC? I'm going to. I've got lots of fun out of the game for what it cost. I can easily justify paying another $4.99.
Not so sure about the zombie DLC later this summer, though.  :-\
Unless they find some fresh approach to killing zombies - the concept is rather hackneyed. :P

I went ahead and got the Full Metal Frenzy DLC to give it a try. The 2 new arenas are on the tougher side since the arenas have blocks of buildings you have to get around to get to the guy you are after.

The Zagreb map does have a plaza in the middle of the city to have a full on battle going on.

I like the 2 new cars. The Stallion I thing will be very useful in a deathmatch.  ;) And the Micro GT look like a mini cooper and I'm a fan of mini coopers.  :) Be warn that Gas Guzzler Steam page has the wrong car listed:

Dominator is a mode similar to DM/TDM. you have to score points by killing other players BUT to score point you have to carry dominator flag. All other kills (from player without flag) are added to stats but are not included in the final match score count. Player who has a flag is tagged with skull'n'bones marker and cannot hide (unless he takes invisibility power up :)) Game mode is pretty intense since (if you play it in single play) all players chase the flag carrier.

Destruction Derby - is a classic smash/kill DM mode. you kill other opponents by ramming into them. For each kill you are rewarded by additional health and nitro. this mode is totally stress free and really fun to play. you inflict damage to other vehicles depending where you hit them, the best way to destroy opponent cars is to use nitro and ram them from side. players are respawned after death.

Domination Derby - is combination of Derby and Dominator mode. This mode is a bit difficult and it takes certain amount of skill to score the point but it's rewarding once you find proper tactics how to win.

The online hosting list now show 3 new icons for the 3 new modes and under DLC, you see NONE and FMF ( Full Metal Frenzy ). I wonder how host list will handle the next DLC, Full Metal Zombie. Will it look something like this: FMF+FMZ?

Will get an error message if click a host with a DLC you don't have. The Gamepires Devs have handle this part of doing DLCs correctly. Error message tell player the name of the missing DLC, so player has an idea what he will need to join host. To bad Codemasters did not do this with GRID 2!!

For now, I think I will stick to hosting with stock Gas Guzzlers Extreme and wait until the Full Metal Zombie get release later this summer and then see if you guys want to get both DLCs. I would hope Gamepires will offer a bundle deal where you can buy both DLCs at a reduce price, say $8 for the 2 dlcs instead of $5 for each one. Both even at $5 for each DLC, that not a bad price.

One problem with DLCs, they can divide the online community and with GGE online community being small already, I thing this could be a problem.

Here a post on how the Devs went about making Zagreb arena:

Zagreb map is SOOOOO much art (http://steamcommunity.com/app/243800/discussions/0/540741859189002082/)

Quote from: Deda Stojko

Zagreb Arena we wanted to make it as a showcase; to show that a real location can be fully transferred into a game and be fully functional for a gameplay purposes.

The process starts by taking hi-res pictures of real location. We had spent 5 days taking pictures of the buildings, roads, pavements and all other necessary details (including 360x180 degrees panoramic full HDR photos on several spots to match lighting of the level to a real area ).

There's no easy way to do it but to hit the road with DLSR cameras. I think that we've taken over have 30+GB of photo materials. One additional day was spent to make measurements of the buildings’ positions so that we don’t make mistake in proportions.

Finally when the fieldwork was done we started to build up the city module. First, all textures have to be sorted out and associated with the structures that we want to create. After sorting them out color textures have to be cleared from people passing by and other obstacles. Then we create normal, specular, reflection and albedo textures (all in high res – ranging from 2K to 4K pixels, giving us full range of setups from low to high end platforms).

There is a certain amount of texture optimization that need to be done as well; since most of the buildings are tiled (the same windows are repeated in columns) we create skin textures for all buildings. That allows us to have high resolution textures on all buildings with a high amount of details (you can practically read the product titles in the store windows).

After all textures are finalized we start to make the physical models, first with basic layout and spacing by creating the level from boxes to make sure that all the dimensions are good. Eventually when buildings are completed we replace placeholders with final models.

When most of the level is completed we start to work on additional details, such as statues, garbage cans, street lamps and all other objects which are unique to the specific location. After those objects are completed we determine which props will be interactive and make detailed interactions for them too.

When most of the level is completed we begin creating background models along with textures. The BCG models are simple representations of distant buildings; actually they're considered to be place holders for possible future level expansions. Eventually in the future we can just make new sections of the city and replace it instead of having the bcg models in the level. :)

Finally when the level is finalized we bake the ambient occlusion for all surroundings so that things fit more naturally inside.

Here are some facts from Zagreb arena:
- 60+ buildings were made
- 400+ hi res textures
- Terrain
- 20+ unique objects (props, lamps, signs, statues, etc..) with destruction models were made
- 5+ trees or plants
- Playable level covers approx. 140,000.00 square meters (1,560,000.00 sq ft)
- Total level with BCG models covers approx. 500,000 square meters (5,400,000.00 sq ft)

Piece of cake, hope it was worth it :)

Sorry I got there late, Purple.  Had a few of beers sitting around a bonfire for a few hours first.

When I did get there, it was 6/8 players. Did you get a full house at any time?

It seems like there are a few more players showing up on the servers recently.

No full house tonight. Did get to 6 players earlier in the night for awhile. Saw some new players at level 1-3. I think they took advantage of the Steam sale this week.

WEEK LONG DEAL! Offer ends in 31:51:13

$24.99
$8.49

Look like sale still going on for a few more days.

We had some close deatrmatches and races tonight. That one deathmatch with 4 teams, 3 of the teams were tie at 17,17,17 about 20 seconds before the end of the match.  :o  :)

I've been low on money, but I've also been keeping my eye on this game.

Bought it along with the DLC. Now all I have to do is wait for the 7th of June when my fibre optics will be FINALLY installed. Looking forward to playing this game! :))

To"fix" second PC, I think I would have to uninstall Vista and do a fresh install to stop Vista from locking up some Saturdays when I host.

Maybe when next DLC get release, Full Metal Zombie and hope all you guys buy the bundle, then I can host with DLCs on Saturdays. Right now, I would hate for stock guys to not be able to join host, since we are still a small group.

Create a new limited user just for hosting the server, and see if that helps the situation.

I jest, but it probably does need reinstalling.

I hate Vista for it unfriendly useability compared to Win XP.  >:( But gaming with Vista was pretty stable for 4 years as my main gaming computer. New gaming computer using Win 7. :)

I hosted for 5 hours last Saturday night, no problem. And I did not reboot computer before hosting. Computer been running since it lock up 2 Saturdays ago when hosting GGE. That Saturday, I had rebooted computer before starting dedicated severer software.  :P

Next Saturday may be my last Saturday hosting GGE for awhile. Come July, I may start working the night shift ( 6:00pm-2:00pm ), 7 days a week through July ( cherry season ). Anybody want to take over hosting duties for July?

Unfortunately, I don't have a second machine powerful enough to host at the moment.   :'(
See you in August, I guess.

Did you continue racing with the new guy last saturday? You had a long night of it as it was - I left at 2 AM PST.
Midnite PST is late enough for some European dev types to skip church (ahem) to join us Sunday morning. (hint, hint)  ;)
God says it's o.k. and hangovers are no excuse.

I often buy those Washington cherries. Rainier and Bing.
I have a Montmorency cherry tree in the back yard - it's loaded with future cherries.
We're one climate zone too far north for the bings.
Traverse city, Michigan is farther up nort', but they're warmer on the east shore of Lake Michigan.

I talk with Hu1k for a bit, then I called it a night.

I will be sorting Rainer and Bing cherrys in July. We grow a lot of cherrys here in the Yakima valley, along with the hops and apples.

I make homebrew and homemade fruit wine, so cherries and hops are some of my favorite things.  ;D

I bought a hop rhizome and had the plant growing at the last place I lived. Should do it again in the spring. I'd have to build something for it to climb . . . .

We make a roadtrip to orchards along the upper Missisippi river every fall for the apples.

Developer Deda Stojko over at the steam community had this to say about the upcoming zombie DLC:
"we are pushing hard to finalize Zombie DLC, we had to do lots of new things to enable rag doll physics and other game-play elements for Zombies.
And yes, you will be able to run them over (at least smaller ones :) )."

Don't know if zombies drive, but they do have names, so maybe it'll have similarities to Flatout's ragdoll drivers and Carmageddon's peds.  8)

Give MP try with me, Royce and maybe Zebulon55 if he make it on a Saturday night US time, before you say no on Mutiplayer.  Could of used a 4th player last Saturday might.

We usually do teams against the AI bots, can learn the ropes and still help us beat the bots in number of kills. With my server, I do a mix of deathmatch, CTF and some racing in a 9 event tournament.

Number one rule with GGE, if got 3 enemy bots shooting at you, RUN!!! If try and fight, the 3 bots are going kill you ( you might get one of them ). But if 3 bots are busy shooting another player or bot, then you can get some easy kills when they not looking at you.

Carmageddon Reincarnation goes Beta February 14th.

Gas Guzzlers Extreme: Full Metal Zombie

A Zombie apocalypse has taken over the hi-octane GAS GUZZLERS EXTREME universe ! Normally this would be bad news for humanity, but not for you ! Armed to the teeth in your rig, and with insane power-ups littering each arena, you should be more than capable of obliterating the hordes of the undead. But be aware, these brain-munching dudes fight back, and have weapons of their own, plus running over too many of them will make your wheels slip in gore, resulting in the inevitable feasting, urr on you that is...

The Full Metal Zombie DLC plays like a completely new game. It introduces tons of new stuff, like ragdoll physics, zombie AI, blood and bodyparts flying around; taking the fun up a notch or ten! Join the action now !
Key features:

A total of 22 zombie variants, from plain old regular zombies to ax wielding maniacs, to giant undead zombie animals carrying explosives, plus a minigun boss.
All new arena: Warburg, a huge new city map .
New car: the Kaiju GTR, a fast iconic Japanese sports and drag racing car
Two new game modes: Defend the Base and Survival (both single and multi-player).
New military skin. Bust those Zs like GI Joe...

Anybody interested in getting the zombie DLC, I would recommend you also get the Full Metal Frenzy DLC too. When I'm hosting, I will either be stock ( no DLCs ) or I will host both FMZ and Zombie DLCs. So will need both DLCs to join my host.

Got questions about the new Zombie DLC ( Dev say it more like an expansion pack ), ask them here:

Got this post from GGE Dev, just wanted to make sure how the 2 DLCs will work:

Quote from: LevaOpaki;611698195158085485
If you run GGE+Full Metal Frenzy+Zombie  then all user need to have both DLC. If you run server as GGE+Zombie then only zombie DLC is needed. You can select proper options in dedicated server launcher. Just uncheck checkbox for specific DLC.

I bought this game back when it first came out. I liked the single player but the multi player was horrible. I would get big lag and I had at the time 100MBPS internet speed. When I would turn left it took a whole second or more for the car to actually turn. The single player mode didn't do that. Put it this way, now in Wreck Fest I only have 18mbps but I have no delay problems and everything works great in multi-player like it should. I finally quit playing Gas Guzzlers because 5 months later the multi-player was the exact same with a big lag. I live in NC, USA.

I got a request from ireadtabloids to put up a Gas Guzzlers Extreme host.

I will host GGE+fenzy+zombie online Saturday, June 20 ( not this coming Sat, next Saturday ), 7:00pm pacific time, 10:00pm eastern time, 3:00am Sunday London time, come join.

Make sure you have both DLCs to be able to join my host.

I may throw up a host sometime this Saturday to get in a little practice. I'm rusty.
